Printmaking Workshops: Sandford Park School
Etching & Drypoint Printmaking Workshops Series
Sandford Park School, Ranelagh
In our printmaking workshops, Sandford Park School senior cycle students were offered a series of 4 printmaking workshops faciliated by Black Church Print Studio tutors during February 2023. Students were given the opportunity to develop ideas for an imaginative composition and create their own original prints through drypoint and copper etching.
Firstly students were introduced to our Studio in Temple Bar by offering a guided tour of the building and facilities, and an opportunity to see prints by professional artist members. Students were then encouraged to produce works that express their sensibility and creativity over a series of 5 weeks.
These workshops were funded by NAPD and the Creative Engagement project programme and the school’s Parent Teacher Association.
This was a great opportunity for the Students to work direcly with print artists and learn new skills
Aims and outcomes of our workshops:
- An understanding of the process and development of contemporary art practice through the medium of printmaking.
- Developing key material skills for printmaking.
- An ability to conduct contextual research into contemporary practitioners.
- An ability to be sensitive to the opportunities afforded through process based practice.
- An understanding of participation learning in a shared environment.
- An ability to actively critique and discuss their practice with peers and practicing artists.
