Screenprint Workshops for Stanhope Primary School

15 June 2024 at Black Church Print Studio

Workshop 1: 11 am – 12.30pm
Workshop 2: 1.30 pm until 3pm

Tutors: An Gee Chan and Emily Mc Gardle

4th, 5th and 6th classes from Stanhope Street Primary School, D.7 will take part in a tote bag stencilling workshop at Black Church Print Studio.

Black Church Print Studio will work with Stanhope Primary School, Dublin 7 to recruit participants for this project. Firstly, we will present at the school and then we will sign up participants for 2 workshops which will be held on the 15th June 2024 at Black Church Print Studio as part of the Crinniú na nÓg programme.

In these workshops, participants will be introduced to the screen printing technique and translate their ideas and create personalised tote bags. Learning the principles of the Screen printing process, participants will make a paper stencil and use it as a screen printing blockout stencil and transfer the negative image onto a tote bag. This workshop will be offered in our Studio in Temple Bar. Workshop will be 1.5hrs and offered 2 times over the day (times tbc)

This process uses safe environmental friendly water-based ink and will create a personalised tote-bag that the children can take away and re-use. All tote bags used will be organic cotton and sourced locally. The workshops will focus on themes of community through the lens of creativity.

Aims and outcomes of the workshop:

  • Introduce children to print as an art form.
  • Produce works that express their sensibility and creativity.
  • Artists will work with a collaborative focus, generating ideas with the group and individually.
