Viola Chiang

Biography

Viola Chiang was born in Taipei, Taiwan, lives and works between Venice (IT) and Dublin (IE). She graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and has undertaken two Erasmus programs in National Academy of Art of Sofia in Bulgaria and Luca School of art in Brussels, Belgium. Member of the Black Church Print Studio, Dublin, Ireland, Chiang is interested in discussing human interactions with the environment to connect printmaking with artist books, publications, small zine and sculpture through the use of recycled materials. From June 2022 she starts her personal print studio in Fondamenta San giacomo 212/C 30133 Giudecca Redentore, Venice, Italy. 

Statement

Violatipia (English is violatype) is her virtual studio and workplace; it could exist anywhere she stays. Continue to travelling, thinking and walking are rules in Violatipia, and never stop to accept new challenges and learn new skills. Her works focus on printmaking using in our times between relationship of human and environment, printmaking techniques as medium to develop different kinds of art projects. Technique studying and process are strong part for her artistic research. Between different spaces and timelines, results of every single project will be different. Try to find more possibilities for printmaking. Between art works and editions (artist book), finding balance and connection. Every artwork has a life, every art work will be in archive. Archives and editions are fundamental to understand artist’s life.
