Biography
My name is Sam O’Reilly, I am an artist born and based in Dublin, and a graduate of NCAD’s Fine Art Print course. I am a printmaker who primarily works with screen print. I will be participating in the “Slow Image”, a group exhibition curated by Noémie Cursoux in February. I am in residence with AGA Labs in Amsterdam, creating a body of work that explores my themes of process.
Statement
The goal with this body of work is to highlight the beauty of process in both art and bodybuilding. It is a rejection of the pressure put on people’s body image, set by contemporary celebrity and social media dominated culture. The use of the screen print medium encourages the viewer to get lost in the gratifying process of making, with the imagery of the bodybuilder being obscured and their identity erased, in an attempt to draw people in past the superficial image of the picturesque “perfect” physique and recognise the value in the making of said body/image
