Alan Crowley
Biography
Alan is a graduate of Limerick School of Art & Design (TUS) in Fine Art Printmaking and holds an M.A. by Research. He lectures on the Animation & Motion Design programme at LSAD delivering drawing, stop-motion and professional practice instruction. In his practice he works with drawing, analogue photography, and printmaking. As a printmaker and darkroom photographer he is drawn to technical process and use a combination of media to arrive at a finished image.
Statement
In his art practice he explores the natural world, photographing common every-day deserted places little changed over the decades. He rambles his local countryside, carrying heavy camera equipment and revisits sites he roamed as a boy, remembered and recognised in memory, yet altered now in his adult eyes. The images he prints contain two distinct stories, his memories as photographer and the many narrative layers interpreted thereafter. He makes representations of views of common everyday scenes, of insignificant places that he portrays as places where the unconscious may play.
