Over saturated off beat colours, shadows of things that are not there. Spacial quandaries and compositional dilemmas that disrupt conventional images. I have gratefully accepted an invitation to do the Process Residency 2026 – 28 at Black Church Print Studio. When I make a painting I never know what it will look like, it follows an idea, it’s a gamble, sometimes it works, sometimes it’s scrapped. I have an established routine of sorts, certain ways in-to an idea. The ‘Process’ Residency will shake this up, I anticipate some boundaries, control, work, preemptive actions, back up plans, no plans, failure and success. There are very little technical restrictions in my practice, I use everything. Oil paint, watercolor, paper, found paper, linen etc, oftentimes I use it all together. I’m buzzing to be reigned in a bit during my ‘Process’ residency and follow a set of technical guidelines. Un-rooted trees, incongruous skies, discontent beyond the horizon. I will be a novice in the print studio, keen and curious and welcoming the unknown.

Black Church Process Residency is a Studio initiative that invites leading art practitioners from other art disciplines to work with the resources of the print studio. This programme offers an insight into the potential of printmaking while promoting and positioning it within contemporary art practice. The projects are intended to be an exploratory process, initiated by the artist’s vision, and facilitated by the skills and experience of a dedicated printmaking team of master printmakers and print coordinators. Artists are encouraged to explore the various possibilities that printmaking present to them. The collaboration between artist and studio aims to give the practitioner a comprehensive understanding of the processes and concepts of this art form and to lead to new and exciting directions in their practice.
