Statement
Brian Giles’ work explores how places and experiences shape who we are, using screen printing, risograph, collage, and photography to layer shapes and textures, embracing both precision and unpredictability in his process. Halftone circles, bitmap diffusions, and overlapping transparencies form a visual language of change. At the same time, unexpected occurrences, moiré patterns, ink bleeds, and paper creases remind him that transformation is never entirely controllable. Rooted in residencies and collaborations across Europe, Giles’s work has evolved from figurative beginnings toward abstraction, reflecting his interest in capturing not what is fixed but what is in the process of becoming, the fluidity of identity, memory, and experience as they navigate different environments.
